Do you have any plans to travel this year? Having been locked up for the last three years, I know everyone’s wanderlust is high and travel plans are in the making. Whether you’re travelling by plane, train, or in the pages of books, I’ve gathered some of my most favorite atmospheric books to help get you there safely.
After listening to the Get Lit(erate) episode Flaneuring Through our Reading Life and Stephanie’s idea to keep a list of places you’ve travelled in your books, I was inspired to make a list of some of my favorite books that have taken me to another place. All of these books have the ability to transport you through their amazing use of setting. The setting is so strong that it feels like it could be a character itself.
Land Down Under
These books couldn’t be any more different from each other, but all of them make me dream of visiting Australia and New Zealand some day.
Alaska
These books will most likely make you cold, but they will also remind you that the earth is vast, and nature is incredible.
Italy
These novels will have you dreaming of food and the slow, warm life of the Italian culture.
A few more places to explore!
Marshes of N. Carolina

Future Travels on my TBR
These books come highly recommended and I can’t wait to immerse myself in their beautiful settings.
For 2023, I’m keeping track of the places I’ve travelled in books. So far, I’ve visited Alaska and Sicily, but I can’t wait to see where else I travel to. I would really like to find a romance set in Hawaii or Spain and a book that takes place in Thailand. Please let me know if you have any recommendations for these places or any other books that will transport me.
